Ella Dining Room and Bar, a world-class restaurant by the same family who introduced The Kitchen Restaurant and Selland's Market-Café to Sacramento, seeks to add to its Service Team. These positions represent a unique opportunity to join an established company in the exciting and growing food and wine market of Downtown Sacramento. Ella Dining Room and Bar’s "Farm to Fork" focused menu not only sources fresh, locally grown produce and meat but also offers delicious cocktails, beer and an award winning wine list featuring hard to find and local producers.


Selland Family Restaurants (SFR) is a local, family-run group of farm-to-fork focused restaurants. The group includes venerable local institution The Kitchen Restaurant, downtown Sacramento hot spot Ella Dining Room and Bar, two Selland's Market-Café locations, as well as OBO' Italian (coming in 2016). SFR has been family-owned and operated for over twenty years. The restaurants are acclaimed locally, regionally, nationally, and beyond for quality of local, seasonal ingredients, award-winning design, and unmatched hospitality and service.


The ideal candidates will have excellent social skills, be highly motivated and feel comfortable working in a demanding position that requires multi-tasking while providing the highest levels of service. Candidates also should have sufficient experience and food/wine/liquor knowledge to hit the ground running. The ideal candidate for this job also must be very reliable, creative, highly organized, and have a passion for service and hospitality. Servers are responsible for maintaining customer service according to Restaurant standards while taking orders, delivering food, bussing tables, merchandising food, cleaning, cashiering and receiving and stocking product.  This Associate has the knowledge of and maintains sanitary food handling practices. Servers interact with guests in a positive manner by assisting them promptly, and approaching them in a hospitable, friendly way.


In addition the candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Maintaining the highest level of service and hospitality according to Restaurant standards
  • Maintains an awareness of food and product information, promotions, special offers and advertisements
  • Knowledge of and maintaining sanitary food handling practices and restaurant cleanliness before, during, and after shift
  • Communicates guest requests to co-workers and/or management in a prompt, efficient manner
  • Order taking and input into the Point of Sale computer to inform the kitchen of the particulars of the order
  • Ascertain guest satisfaction throughout service
  • Cooperates and interacts with colleagues in a positive, respectful manner and with a team approach, offering to assist as needed in order to ensure customer service
  • Abide by all state, federal regulations and restaurant liquor policies pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages
  • Accurately and efficiently complete all sales transactions and maintain proper cash handling protocols
  • Reports to work on time and as assigned per the schedule on a regular, consistent basis


  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • A valid California Food Handler Card is required
  • Prefer a minimum of one year of previous serving experience
  • Must have a courteous, friendly and professional demeanor
  • Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the restaurant generally weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and carry food and beverage trays for prolonged periods of time
  • Staff must have the ability to process information/merchandise through computer system and POS register system
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and guests in person and on the phone
  • Ability to write and count o accurately complete transactions and all required documentation
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground, including mats and steps, freely accessing all areas of the restaurant including the restaurant floor, stock/prep areas, and the kitchen
  • Ability to operate and use restaurant equipment and appliances necessary to the service of the guest
  • Ability to be exposed to extremes in water temperature, humidity and moisture
  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates
